OCNI Youth Shadow Council
Shaping the Future of the Canadian Nuclear Industry
Mandate
The OCNI Youth Shadow Council functions as a volunteer youth advisory group to OCNI staff and the OCNI Board of Directors. This council is modelled as an operational committee with a focus on promoting youth leadership development and engaging young Canadians on key issues in the nuclear energy sector.
The OCNI Youth Shadow Council is a volunteer group dedicated to engaging young leaders and youth across Canada, encouraging them to actively participate in shaping the future of the Canadian nuclear sector as we work towards the ‘Net Zero by 2050’ goal.
The council focuses on leadership development and outreach by connecting members with industry mentors through a structured mentorship program, offering opportunities for job shadowing and career exploration. Council members are also actively involved in nuclear events, such as the “Glow Up” youth series webinars, and are encouraged to attend various OCNI events, both in-person and virtual. A key aspect of the council’s work is maintaining a strong social media presence, building on previous successes while introducing new ideas and campaigns to promote engagement and educate peers about nuclear energy in Canada. Additionally, the council will produce an annual youth-perspective report on the Canadian nuclear industry, sharing their insights and reflections from their experiences on the council. Through these initiatives, the OCNI Youth Shadow Council plays a crucial role in fostering youth leadership and contributing to the broader conversation on Canada’s energy future.
The goal of the Youth Shadow Council is to promote youth leadership development and engagement on key issues in the Canadian nuclear energy sector.
