OCNI Leads Trade Mission to Sweden and Norway to Strengthen Global Nuclear Collaboration
October 2025 — Stockholm, Sweden
The Organization of Canadian Nuclear Industries (OCNI) was proud to lead a Canadian trade mission to Sweden and Norway last week, marking a significant step forward in expanding international collaboration and advancing Canada’s nuclear supply chain on the global stage.
This CanExport-funded trade mission builds on recent bilateral engagements, including a 2024 visit to Stockholm by Canadian industry representatives and a 2025 Norwegian trade delegation to Canada. This year’s trade mission comes at a critical time as opportunities for new nuclear projects are growing across Northern Europe. The OCNI delegation connected Canadian suppliers directly with Swedish and Norwegian industry leaders, utilities, government officials, and research organizations.
The mission began with a briefing at the Canadian Embassy followed by site visits to leading Swedish nuclear organizations, including Studsvik, Cyclife Sweden, and AB SVAFO. The following day OCNI and its member companies, including Aecon, BWXT Canada, L3 Harris, Laurentis Energy Partners, and WSP Canada, participated in the Nordic Baltic Nuclear Investment Summit in Stockholm, where leaders from across Northern Europe gathered to discuss strategies to triple nuclear energy in Sweden and support new projects emerging in Poland, Estonia, and Latvia.
The delegation ended the trade mission in Oslo with an embassy briefing and a series of technical site visits to key Norwegian research organizations, including the Institute for Energy Technology (Halden), the Norwegian Nuclear Research Centre, and the DECOM Cluster.
This mission comes at a pivotal time, as Sweden’s recently passed Nuclear Energy Act introduces over 200 billion kroner (73 million CAD) in funding, securities, and investment guarantees to expand the country’s nuclear capacity. With this new momentum across the region, OCNI’s members are well-positioned to contribute proven technologies, services, and expertise to help power a clean energy future.
“OCNI’s trade missions are about more than just business—they’re about building enduring relationships that strengthen Canada’s role in the global nuclear community,” said Ivette Vera Perez, President and CEO of OCNI. “We’re proud to see our members showcasing their innovation and leadership on the international stage.”
OCNI’s international trade missions are designed to open new markets, foster partnerships, and promote Canada’s world-class nuclear expertise abroad. Through these missions, OCNI helps member companies gain access to global supply chains, identify business opportunities, and strengthen relationships with organizations that share Canada’s commitment to clean, sustainable energy.
