Throughout the last decade, Ron has supported OCNI member companies in connecting with domestic and off-shore nuclear utilities, nuclear research centres, and government agencies. He is committed to promoting best practices across the industry including technology innovations, new standards, and regulations evolving customer needs. In doing so, he has become a trusted voice within the nuclear industry and recognized as a notable leader and partner in business growth for OCNI members.

This anniversary milestone is marked by many exceptional achievements and contributions to both the nuclear industry and OCNI. Ron has demonstrated his dedication and professionalism through various initiatives on behalf of OCNI including supporting members in off-shore markets with trade missions; demonstrating to local and provincial politicians how an investment in the nuclear industry will grow various communities, and emphasizing the role nuclear plays in Canada’s low carbon future, to name a few.

Most recently, Ron completed the ICD/Rotman Directors Education Program in March of 2020, and in January of 2021, he was invited to serve on the IBB National Pension Fund’s Clean Energy Strategy Advisory Committee. Ron has also supported the development of a recent notable project with the First Nations Power Authority (FNPA), to undertake a one-year program to recruit, train and place Indigenous peoples and women in skilled trades positions in Ontario’s nuclear sector.

Prior to joining OCNI Ron served in various technical, project and business development roles for more than 30 years with AECL, Ontario Hydro International, and Ontario Power Generation.

Ron is a graduate of the University of Manitoba, the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Business, received his PhD in aerospace propulsion from Princeton University, and was a post-doctoral fellow at the Technical University of Munich. He is also a member of the Advisory Board to the Faculty of Energy Systems and Nuclear Science (FESNS) at Ontario Tech University.

The OCNI team invites you to join us in congratulating Ron Oberth on this milestone anniversary by sending him best wishes.

Best Wishes from the OCNI Board of Directors:

“Ron’s disarming modesty and friendly demeanour can sometimes mask the extraordinary depth of his qualities: astute vision, unyielding drive, and steady leadership. Those qualities are best seen reflected in the OCNI that Ron has supported through to maturity of its role in the industry. Over the last 10 years, as a direct result of Ron’s leadership, OCNI has experienced breathtaking growth in the scope of its domestic and international mission in the service of the supply chain and the nuclear sector, the virtually universal recognition in our industry of the quality and expanse of the value that OCNI returns on the investment of its members, and the safeguarding of the continuity of the supply chain’s role and prosperity. This extraordinary journey of OCNI owes a great deal to Ron. The growth of OCNI membership, sustained through the pandemic, and the continued support of the leading nuclear institutions in Canada are testament to and recognition for Ron’s great achievements and contribution to the industry.
