Canada’s Nuclear Isotope Expertise Highlighted at European Nuclear Medicine Congress
OCNI was proud to partner with the Canadian Nuclear Isotope Council (CNIC) to lead the Canadian delegation at the 38th Annual Congress of the European Association of Nuclear Medicine (EANM), a global event that attracts over 10,000 participants from across the field of nuclear medicine.
Canada plays a unique and critical role in the global nuclear medicine industry. Our fleet of CANDU reactors are the only power reactors in the world capable of producing medical isotopes without interrupting power generation. This infrastructure has become a foundation of the global medical isotope supply, providing hope for patients worldwide.
OCNI’s participation at EANM highlighted the essential contribution of Canada’s nuclear supply chain to the sustainable, long-term supply of these vital isotopes.
“From isotope production to patient delivery, Canada plays a key role in the advancement of nuclear medicine,” said Sarina Harrison, OCNI Senior Manager of Partners and Events. “We are proud to be supporting our member and industry partners as we showcase our unique expertise to the world.”
The Canadian delegation hosted two key events over the course of the Congress to demonstrate Canada’s world-class capabilities:
- Powering Canada’s Medical Isotope Leadership: The Canadian Nuclear Isotope Council (CNIC) hosted a side event exploring how Canada’s CANDU infrastructure supports the growing global nuclear medicine market. Speakers from Laurentis Energy Partners, Bruce Power, Kinectrics, and Nordion detailed their unique roles, from operations and specialized delivery systems to future innovations that will ensure Canada’s long-term leadership and supply of medical isotopes.
- Inside Canada’s Isotope Ecosystem: OCNI and CNIC co-hosted an event highlighting the innovation driving Canada’s global isotope leadership. Speakers from OCNI, CNIC, Isosolutions, Promation, Stevcon, Pacer, Cadena Research, and NUCM Radiopharma emphasized how collaboration and partnerships are unlocking new opportunities in the global fight against cancer. These organizations are all showcased in the newly updated Canadian Isotope Ecosystem Directory.
International engagement is vital for securing the long-term, sustainable supply of life-saving medical isotopes. OCNI’s participation at EANM, with our partners and members, underscores our pivotal role in promoting the Canadian nuclear supply chain globally, allowing Canada to continue its essential contribution to saving lives worldwide.
