SUMMARY:Winning Work in the Nuclear Supply Chain: How Suppliers Get Seen
DESCRIPTION:What Our Members Told Us About Their Marketing Challenges \n\n\n\nWhat does it take to make sure the right buyers know who you are and what your company can do? \n\n\n\nAhead of our upcoming webinar on September 11\, we asked OCNI members which marketing topics would be most valuable to their organizations. The responses pointed to a clear challenge: for many suppliers\, the priority isn’t simply generating more marketing activity. It’s becoming more visible and relevant to the people who influence buying decisions. \n\n\n\nOf the members who responded\, 83% identified building relationships with utilities and key industry stakeholders as a priority\, while 72% want to strengthen how they position their company and capabilities. \n\n\n\nEvents are another important piece of the puzzle. More than half of respondents want to get greater value from conferences and industry events\, and 44% are looking for ways to create content that better connects with buyers. \n\n\n\nTaken together\, the results highlight something many companies across the nuclear supply chain experience: having strong capabilities is only part of winning business. Buyers also need to understand what makes your company relevant\, trust that you can deliver and remember you when the right opportunity arises. \n\n\n\nThat’s why OCNI is bringing members together on September 11 for Winning Work in the Nuclear Supply Chain\, presented by Lee de Lang and Sarah Benteau of Big Red Oak. \n\n\n\nRather than treating marketing as a collection of disconnected activities\, the session will look at how positioning\, relationships\, events\, content and marketing channels can work together to build visibility and buyer confidence. \n\n\n\nWhether you’re trying to strengthen relationships with utilities\, sharpen how you communicate your value or get more from the time and money you’re already investing in industry events\, this session will offer practical ideas you can put to work. \n\n\n\nJoin us on Friday\, September 11 from 10:00–11:00 a.m. ET. \n\n\n\nClick Me!

SUMMARY:The Evolving Canada–U.S. Trade Landscape: Context for Canada’s Nuclear Supply Chain Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Canada’s trade landscape continues to evolve against a backdrop of tariffs\, countermeasures and the collapse of discussions in August 2026. The uncertainty unleashed by a deteriorating Canada-U.S. trade relationship has also spurred domestic economic reforms and broader efforts to diversify Canada’s trade relationships and strengthen access to markets beyond the United States. Together\, these developments are creating a complex and shifting environment for businesses and industries operating within deeply integrated North American and global supply chains. \n\n\n\nIn this timely webinar\, Jeff Mahon\, Director of StrategyCorp’s Geopolitical and International Business Advisory Practice will provide OCNI members with an update on the latest developments in the Canada–U.S. relationship\, including ongoing trade tensions\, tariff measures and CUSMA negotiations\, while also examining Canada’s efforts to drive domestic industrial development and diversify its trade partnerships and reduce reliance on any single market. The session will look ahead to what can reasonably be expected over the remainder of 2026 and provide context for how these developments could intersect with Canada’s nuclear supply chain and the organizations operating across it. \n\n\n\nThe discussion follows StrategyCorp’s January 2026 session for OCNI members\, providing an opportunity to revisit the issues explored earlier in the year in light of a significantly evolved trade and policy landscape. \n\n\n\nAbout Jeff Mahon \n\n\n\nJeff Mahon is Director of StrategyCorp’s Geopolitical & International Business Advisory Practice. He serves clients in navigating a fast changing political and policy environment by translating big-picture trends into tractable solutions. With technical regulatory knowledge\, a background in foreign policy development\, and experience negotiating and executing international trade contracts\, Jeff brings a unique skillset to position clients to not only prepare for and respond to risks but also to seize opportunities amidst a changing geopolitical order. \n\n\n\nPrior to joining StrategyCorp\, Jeff served on important files and policy areas with the Canadian federal government. His most recent role was Deputy Director at Global Affairs Canada’s China Division. While at Industry Canada he served as Senior Adviser at both the Investment Review Division and the Investment Attraction Directorate. Prior to joining the federal government\, he was Nunavut’s Chief Negotiator for the Canada Free Trade Agreement (CFTA)\, where he spearheaded the creation of the Regulatory Reconciliation and Cooperation Table (RCT)\, a new intergovernmental institution designed to reduce red tape and enable interprovincial business. He also founded an international trade brokerage company focusing on Canadian agricultural exports to China. \n\n\n\nJeff is a keen observer of international relations\, trade policy and geoeconomics\, with publications in the Globe & Mail\, Financial Post\, Asia Nikkei\, the Toronto Star and more. He also serves on the board of directors for the Ottawa Jazz Festival. \n\n\n\nEvent details: \n\n\n\nDate: October 15\, 2026Time: 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. ET \n\n\n\nRegister Now

Building a Workforce Advantage From the Inside Out \n\n\n\nDate: Friday\, October 30\, 2026 | Time: 10:00 am – 11:00 am | Format: live session + Q&A \n\n\n\nHosted by Forget The Name and Big Red Oak\, in partnership with OCNI \n\n\n\nOverview \n\n\n\nEvery organization has two sides to its talent story: the culture people experience once they’re inside\, and the reputation people see and believe before they ever apply. A strong recruitment and retention strategy needs both working together. \n\n\n\nA great internal culture that no one outside the organization can see still struggles to attract the people it needs. And a polished external story that doesn’t hold up once someone joins creates exactly the kind of disengagement and turnover this industry can’t afford. The two sides have to move together. \n\n\n\nThis session pairs Forget The Name’s culture diagnostic with Big Red Oak’s employer brand expertise to look at both sides at once: what’s really happening inside your organization; what candidates\, employees\, and the industry see from the outside; and how to align the two. \n\n\n\nUsing a (seasonally appropriate) cast of costume archetypes — the Ghost\, the Mask\, Frankenstein\, the Vampire\, the Time Traveller\, and the Mummy — we’ll help you recognize which patterns show up in your own organization\, and what closing the gap takes. \n\n\n\nIn This Session\, You’ll Learn: \n\n\n\n\nWhy internal culture and external reputation are two halves of the same workforce advantage\, not separate problems.\n\n\n\nThe six most common gaps between what your organization experiences and what it projects — and how to spot your own.\n\n\n\nHow to build a recruitment and retention strategy where the story you tell and the experience you deliver reinforce each other.\n\n\n\nPractical questions you can ask your own people this week to start closing the gap.\n\n\n\nWhy circumstances (growth\, tradition\, crisis) create these patterns — and why none of them mean you’ve built a bad company.\n\n\n\n\nEvent Details \n\n\n\nDate: Friday\, October 30\, 2026 \n\n\n\nTime: 10 am- 11 am ET \n\n\n\nPresenters: Clarisse Lièvre of Forget The Name and Sarah Benteau of Big Red Oak \n\n\n\nRegister Now

SUMMARY:OCNI/UNENE CFE Fusion Lecture Series: Measuring the Fusion Plasma
DESCRIPTION:An Introduction to Plasma Diagnostics and Their Role in the Development of Fusion Energy \n\n\n\nThe Centre for Fusion Energy (CFE)\, Canada’s national collaboration platform for fusion\, continues its lecture series with a look at one of the field’s most essential and least visible technologies: plasma diagnostics. \n\n\n\nFusion technology is rapidly accelerating. In 2028\, Commonwealth Fusion Systems targets net energy production from the plasma\, the coveted Q>1 milestone. Several fusion companies have produced practical reactor design targeting completion in the mid-2030s. Yet\, that development toward fusion power depends on knowing exactly how plasmas in prototypes are behaving: their temperature\, density\, confinement\, and stability. Plasma diagnostics are the measurement systems that determine what the plasma is actually doing. \n\n\n\nThis lecture introduces the major families of plasma diagnostics: how they work\, what they measure\, and how they guide fusion development from early experiments to demonstration devices and power plants. It also looks at how diagnostics are changing as fusion moves from R&D in the public sector to R&D in the private sector. Bespoke research instruments are becoming standardized\, reliable systems\, which creates an opportunity for Canada’s fusion supply chain. \n\n\n\nAbout the speaker \n\n\n\nHenry Gould is the Founder and CEO of Daedal Systems Inc. A Queen’s Engineering Physics graduate\, Henry spent his early career at General Fusion developing plasma diagnostics\, including soft X-ray detectors and microwave systems for temperature and density measurements. He later led the diagnostic suite on Plasma Injector 3 as Technical Project Manager. \n\n\n\nHenry founded Daedal after noticing that every fusion company builds the same diagnostics in-house\, even though they aren’t core IP. Based in Toronto\, Daedal is building measurement infrastructure for the fusion industry: hardware and software systems that can be deployed on any fusion machine. In July 2026\, Daedal closed a $5.7M CAD pre-seed round led by OMERS Ventures. \n\n\n\nEvent Details \n\n\n\nDate: November 9\, 2026 \n\n\n\nTime: 10 am- 11 am ET \n\n\n\nRegister Now

SUMMARY:Navigating Software Qualification in the Nuclear Industry: How to Reduce Risk\, Avoid Delays and Navigate Regulatory Requirements
DESCRIPTION:Date: November 12\, 2026 | 10:00 AM – 11:00AM \n\n\n\nNavigating Software Qualification in the Nuclear Industry \n\n\n\nHow to Reduce Risk\, Avoid Delays and Navigate Regulatory RequirementsPresenter: Eli Svetanic\, Control Systems Designer Co-presenter: Brandy Van Benthem\, Senior Team Lead\, Engineering \n\n\n\nAs software takes on an increasingly important role in modern nuclear systems\, qualification activities have become a critical factor in project success. Organizations that underestimate qualification requirements often face schedule delays\, increased costs\, and challenges obtaining regulatory approval\, making software qualification one of the most significant risks in nuclear modernization initiatives. \n\n\n\nJoin Eli Svetanic and Brandy Van Benthem as they explore the evolving software qualification landscape and discuss the regulatory framework that organizations should be aware of when seeking to qualify software for use in a nuclear application. This session will provide practical guidance to help reduce risk and improve project outcomes\, and highlight lessons learned from previous software qualification projects \n\n\n\nKey takeaways include: \n\n\n\n\nWhy software qualification is a critical constraint in nuclear modernization projects\n\n\n\nCommon pitfalls that delay approvals and increase project risk\n\n\n\nStrategies for navigating qualification requirements more effectively\n\n\n\n\nEvent Details \n\n\n\nDate: November 12\, 2026 \n\n\n\nTime: 10 am- 11 am ET \n\n\n\nRegister Now
