Community Check-in: Tri-County Hello

Hey everyone, it’s Alison Fernandes, OCNI’s Manager of Bruce Power & Community Relations!

As many of you know, I cover the Tri-County Region consisting of Grey, Bruce & Huron Counties assisting our members with localization, diversification, retention and collaboration within the Nuclear Industry and the local communities as a whole.

2020 So Far – Lessons Learned

I think everyone can admit, it’s been quite the 2020 thus far!  We have seen ups and downs throughout the past few months but one of the most impactful lessons learned I feel, was the notion of getting grounded.  This whole pandemic has taken life to a new level for many and forced us all to slow down, smell the roses as some would say, spend time with family and really feel the touch in the moment.

Having said that, business was still moving forward for many and in fact, may have increased across several industries!

In the Community

We have seen numerous exciting initiatives that have taken the meaning of partnership to a whole new level.  From our members and utility partners coming together to provide, countless fundraising efforts, PPE distribution and donations to local community initiatives, saying we are proud is an understatement.

In other news, OCNI has just signed an MOU with our friends at the NII!  We know that with the ongoing efforts and collaboration of our teams, we will be here to assist and support all members of the supply chain to achieve the most innovative practices and outcomes for the Nuclear Industry.

Ready Golf

Yes that’s right, be Ready for OCNI’s Annual Golf Tournament (The Covid Version), taking place on August 26, 2020 at Lion Head Golf Club in Brampton, ON.  If you haven’t registered yet, please reach out for further details and sponsorship opportunities. As I write this, there is only 1 foursome left and we will then be sold out! We all know that one golf tournament isn’t enough so…OCNI is planning a 2nd tournament for our friends in the Grey/Bruce/Huron Counties coming in September at Saugeen Golf Club…who doesn’t love a little Fall Golf?!  Stay tuned for more details soon.

All In Ontario Challenge

As many of you know, I sit on the Board of Directors for the United Way Bruce Grey.  Throughout the year, our team at United Way supports a multitude of community organizations within Grey and Bruce County’s.  One of the current efforts that is taking place to support the United Way through this pandemic is the All-In-Ontario Challenge powered by NIIBruce Power and NPX. This digital fundraising initiative brings fun and excitement while supporting the most vulnerable members of our local community, helping others re-build their lives after and throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.  To learn more on how businesses or individuals can donate an item or experience or challenge three others to donate as well, please visit the GBH Strong website.

Nuclear’s Importance during the Pandemic

In closing, one thing that this Pandemic has shown all of us, is the importance of the Nuclear industry across a vast majority of sectors and communities. Reflecting on how fortunate we are to have been able to not only continue to provide clean energy to so many homes and businesses, but also to have been able to provide safety and security to our front line workers,  providing a sense of community and confidence to our friends, families and colleagues during a time that undoubtedly at one point gave each and every one of us a multitude of emotions.  Together we are stronger and therefore together we will move forward exuding the best version of ourselves.
